How Jacques Nel became an owner of his own company through professional painting.
Friday , 13 February 2015
A interview with a painting contractor Jacques Nel.
Jacques Nel who has become a professional painter and owns his own company, Master Finishings, started his career at the young age of 22 by doing odd domestic painting jobs to make a living. This is where he discovered his passion and soon led his company to extend their services within the commercial construction industry.
He has been working in the construction industry for the past 13 years of which 8 of those have been within the commercial sector. Jacques loves his job and as quoted by him, " Paint brings life to walls". He has a different kind of passion which gives that unique touch to his work.
Jacques' daily challenges is keeping up with production whilst maintaining a high quality finish. One of his biggest challenges is other trade contractors damaging his work due to poor workmanship, late changes from the architects and malicious damage.
His opinion of how to improve working conditions on site is for all main contractors to ensure that all trades would follow in the proper finishing sequence which would ensure that he can finish his trade 100% without any latent defects. Regarding safety regulations he feels that depending on the main contractor and their discipline of their safety officers, safety could vary tremendously from site to site. However you can never be too safe on a site due to the high risk factor.
In regards to working hours he says it all depends on the requirements of the site and whether they are on schedule or not. On normal days 07:00 am -17:00 pm and then upon completion it could vary from 12-24 per day.
He proclaims his success and skills that has been granted to him by God. However he has also received significant training by their main suppliers, Plascon. The most difficult project he has ever worked on and completed was the Raddison Blue Hotel in Sandton which is a 28 story high rise building.
Jacques says, " Through dedication and hard work anything is possible."
Construction 4 life.
