Building a better
world , brick by brick.
‘’ Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man
to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” – Maimonides. To many of us this is
just a quote, but to *Alfred this is the motto he lives by.
The moment we saw *Alfred we knew that this was the man to
go and talk to , he was so proud of what he was doing even though he was only
laying bricks at that moment. Speaking to him ,one realizes how grateful he
really is to have the job that he has, and that his family also plays a big
role in his life since he is currently working for a Contractor who practices
close to home ( that is now *Alfred’s home)”
He was born in Zimbabwe where he also obtained his building
certificate. His journey in South-Africa started about 7 years ago, since then
he has worked on numerous projects. ‘’Building is my food”, one of *Alfred’s
answers really gives us an idea of how happy he is in his current position and
how much he enjoys his work.
While he was talking with us he revealed that his uncle
played a huge role in his life, when came to South-Africa, in helping him find
a job. According to *Alfred his
workplace is very safe and he is extremely happy with his pay.
When it comes to the actual building *Alfred is a talented
builder seeing as he can do everything from setting out the build site to
installing windows. All the experience that he has obtained has really helped
him to become a well respected builder by his team.
He is very proud of the fact that, since the certificate
that he obtained in Zimbabwe, he has obtained another certificate in
South-Africa. He also is very proud of all the projects that he has worked on.
*Alfred’s advice to us was that we are very privileged to be
in the position that we are in ( being able to study ) and that we should work
and be serious about our studies.
*Not his real name
