Stefan, the brick layer
“With age comes wisdom “
Stefan is a builder, specifying in brick laying, and one
of the oldest on site. He’s without a doubt one of the happiest blokes on earth
when he can work with his hands, he explained. Stefan came forth as a humble
and hard worker whom you can entrust with the most difficult of tasks. Similar
to Lazarus, Stefan is also from Hammanskraal but learned how to build from his
mother, that is correct his mother...He explained how she taught him how to mix
dagha and build in the afternoon when he came home after school. He’s ultimate
dream is to become a foreman in the near future, and considering his work ethic,
he will undoubtedly reach that goal in no time.
Stefan grew up in Pienaarsrivier, 55km north of
Pretoria and attended primary school in Mathibestad, located in the North West province.
Stefan is currently working on the Pretoria Boys High
School construction project as a brick layer and is enjoying every moment of
it.
The amount of bricks Stefan laid in his life is the
amount of dreams he has for his future. He is man with a lot of experience-with
age comes wisdom. The building environment is just the foundation for his
future. He wants to be a leader in the building environment, just like he is a
leader to his son and fellow workers. He wants to become a construction manager,
leading onto his next big thing-his own business, just like Lazarus.
“BOU BOU BOU” was the words out of Stefan’s mouth when
we asked him what he enjoys the most about his job. Working with his hands, hard
work, blood sweat and tears, and working with his fellow workers and friends
everyday..that’s what makes building the thing he can’t stop speaking about. Watching
a building grow before his eyes-that’s the cherry on the top for him. His
mother didn’t put a brick in his hand, yet, without him knowing at that stage..she
put a passion in his hands.
