This is the story of Joshua the carpenter

Joshua is a 34 year old man who started working at the age of 18. Joshua worked at a clothing manufacturing company as a main manager, but after four years he decided that he'd rather work in construction. He then went to carpentry school and became a professional carpenter.

Joshua and one of his close friends have been working together as carpenters ever since. They've been working together for nearly 12 years now. Joshua and his friend work for them selves, but they contract out to bigger companies. Joshua can even remember his very first site where they had to fit and fix about 300 doors in less than 6 months. He can even remember the place. "It was a residential complex in Rosebank" he said. This was also Joshua's favorite project ever. Joshua  has to fit about 40 doors at their current site. Just him and his friend. But Joshua does far more than just doors, they do ceilings and scirtings and even roofs sometimes.

Even though carpentry is very hard work Joshua loves his job and would like to invest in it someday. Joshua tells us that this is just a starting point, it's not his dream. This is just a way of taking him from where he is, to where he wants to be."I'ts like a step in life." He said.

Joshua says that you should grab on to every opportunity that comes your way and be grateful for those you had.Joshua says that it is very important that you really love what you are doing, and that you should not do it just for the money. You should also have the ability and the skill to do your work. Joshua is a very patient guy and he says in this profession  you have no choice. You have to be very patient to do neat work. To do work that you can be proud of.

Joshua wishes that someday people would understand the term construction  and that they will appreciate all the hard work that goes in to the building of an office or a house. Joshua feels that people working in construction do not get enough credit for there work and they are most often forgotten or ignored. He says that people only see a building, they don't remember the people that made that building possible.

Joshua is a very proud, single father of a beautiful 5 year old little girl named Masigo. Joshua wishes that one day  Masigo will be able to look back and be proud of her father. Joshua hopes that he could someday be able to give Masigo the opportunity to make her dreams come true so that she can do what she loves.

This is a video of Bob and Sam's daily work, digging trenches and foundations. They asked that we keep their interviews private.
